Timber Treatments
As one of Cumbria’s most established and reliable damp proofing companies, our expert engineers here at A & C Damp proofing carry out wet and dry control treatments for both domestic and commercial properties throughout the local area. As the two most common forms of fungal decay, if left unaddressed wet and dry rot can escalate into major structural damage expert surveyors and engineers guarantee a quick diagnosis followed by thorough wet and dry rot treatment for properties throughout penrith, Carlisle and the surrounding areas of Cumbria. A damp survey is a crucial part of dealing with the problem, and in certain cases the use of specialised epoxy resins can be carried out to reinforce large structural timbers.
Woodworm Treatment
First sign of woodworm is the appearance of neat round holes, 2mm across, in wooden surfaces, often accompanied by tiny piles of wood dust beneath them. Fresh holes show clean white wood inside. The holes are made by emerging adult beetles, immature grubs may still be tunnelling away inside the wood. The adult Furniture Beetle is a small brown insect 3mm to 6mm long which flies quite readily. It lays eggs on rough, unpolished wood and the grubs bore straight into the wood – leaving no trace until they emerge as beetles three years or so later, usually between May and September. In the first instance we would carry out a full survey of the timber in your home, we will provide a written report on our findings with advice on whether the infestation is active, and the best course of action to take. Should your property need treatment we are proud to be the Sovereign Approved Woodworm treatment specialist for Penrith, Carlisle, Kendal and surrounding areas in Cumbria, whilst providing up to 30 year guarantees for all woodworm treatments which are underwritten by Sovereign Chemicals Limited. Effective woodworm control requires us to have access to as much of the face of the timber as possible, we will always clean the timber to ensure the treatment is as effective as possible, where necessary our services can extend to clearing access to the timber. Removing and replacing loft insulation etc.
Please find below the difference between Dry and Wet Rot:
Wet rot appears as a black fungus on timbers in contact with wet or damp masonry, causing the timber to become soft and spongy to touch and discoloured in appearance. The aim of the treatment process is to remove the source of dampness, treat or replace the decayed timbers and install a physical barrier to prevent further damage from damp masonry.
Dry rot is the most serious form of fungal decay in buildings, spreading through both timber and masonry to leave wood brittle and weak. Despite its name, dry rot is caused by high moisture levels in timber too, and its severity means dry rot infestations require immediate attention. The choice of treatment to cure dry rot depends upon the extent of the rot, age of the property and severity of the outbreak.
